How To Lower Our Carbon Emission: Recycling and Upcycling?

Everyone is interested in a cleaner, healthier world, including consumers, businesses, and even government officials. Upcycling is a strategy that can support this. Using existing materials allows upcycling to avoid wasting valuable ones. As a result, lesser fresh raw materials are needed to make new goods, which reduces the consumption of energy and lowers air and water pollution as well as greenhouse gas emissions.

The most important resource on the earth is carbon, so if we can create products with many uses or a continuous cycle of uses, we can help extend and replenish the carbon stock on our planet. Upcycling is a strategy that can support this.

Change to sustainable, clean energy

Oil, coal, and natural gas provide 81 per cent of all the energy used in the United States (in other words, fossil fuels). These fuels provide us with power, allow us to drive our cars, and heat our houses.

Fossil fuels are scarce, finite resources, and simply moving them around may pollute the air. Toxins released by burning the fuels speed up climate change.

Yet, there is good news! By switching to sustainable energy right away, you can assist in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. These days, there are so many incredible, cutting-edge ways to get energy.

Reducing carbon emissions that cause climate change

Recycling causes a reduction in carbon emissions since it takes less energy to find and process fresh raw materials. Additionally, it prevents garbage that may release methane from entering landfills.

Reduced air pollutants of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are essential to preventing dangerous climate change.

How can you reduce your carbon impact through your eating plan?

Buy as much of your food as possible from local traders. Animal goods are stronger since they need more resources and water.

It is healthier and better for the environment if you load the bulk of your plate with plant-based meals.

You don't have to be concerned about how far your food has to go when you support local farmers. It doesn't need to spend days stuck in traffic, releasing exhaust gases into the atmosphere. It reaches you without polluting the air.

To find out what foods are in season close to you, visit your local farmers' market. Get to know the local farmers and feel free to ask about their methods of farming.

To prevent trash, it's even better to carry some reusable produce bags and totes!

Natural resource conservation

Natural resources are limited in number and some are in concise supply.

At the most basic level:

- Recycling plastic results in less new plastic being produced, which is a positive thing considering that it is frequently generated from hydrocarbons derived from fossil fuels.

- Recycling glass decreases the necessity for new raw resources like sand, which is hard to imagine given that some types of sand are becoming rare globally.

- Forests and trees are preserved by recycling paper and wood. Yes, you can grow more trees, but if a rainforest or an ancient forest is destroyed, it cannot be replaced.

- Metal recycling reduces the need for dangerous, costly, and harmful mining and extraction of new metal ores.

Drive less and bike more to cut down on carbon sources

Traditional automobiles emit a lot of emissions, which pollute the atmosphere. One-third of all air pollution in the US is caused by vehicles. Given that the tailpipes of moving vehicles are located at street level, where people may breathe the air directly into their lungs, the chemicals they produce are also extremely hazardous to human health.

Make it a goal to ride more and reduce your driving. You are forced to use your muscle power while riding a bike. You'll work out while also helping the environment. Additionally, manufacturing a bike uses a lot less energy than manufacturing a car.

Use public transportation if you can't bike to work for whatever reason. It reduces the number of vehicles on the road, which is an excellent approach to start reducing your carbon footprint because it lessens the number of emissions filling the air all at once. Likewise, try to reserve flying for rare occasions!

When in doubt, keep in mind these two: Recycling and Upcycling

The reality is that we all need to develop the habit of using less stuff. We should make every effort to reuse items before recycling them to decrease waste. This would make a big contribution to the solution to the global waste management problem, which has unfairly forced many Global South countries to manage the waste of Global North countries. Governments cannot ignore the issue of how to deal with garbage.

Also, to rising demands for harsher government action to reduce plastic trash, we must combine our efforts to manage our waste with these requests.
